Kawasaki Unveils CORLEO: A Four-Legged, Hydrogen-Powered Rideable Robot at Expo 2025

Kawasaki stunned technology enthusiasts at Expo 2025 Osaka with the debut of CORLEO, a revolutionary four-legged rideable robot designed to mimic biological movement while operating entirely on hydrogen energy. Combining biomechanics with cutting-edge robotics, CORLEO redefines sustainable mobility by ditching wheels and fossil fuels for agile, animal-like locomotion.

Design: Blurring the Line Between Machine and Life
CORLEO’s leg system replicates the gait of four-legged animals, featuring advanced hydraulic joints and flexible, hoof-like feet. This design enables seamless navigation across rugged terrain, from rocky paths to uneven slopes. The absence of wheels and its organic movement—reminiscent of a horse or large dog—offers riders a blend of high-tech innovation and an intuitive riding experience.

Clean Energy at Its Core
Powered by a 150cc hydrogen combustion engine, CORLEO generates electricity to drive its legs, producing near-zero emissions and operating almost silently. Kawasaki emphasized its eco-friendly credentials, positioning the robot as a sustainable alternative to traditional fuel-dependent vehicles.

Control System: Intuitive, Body-Driven Navigation
Riders steer CORLEO using body movements rather than a traditional steering mechanism. Sensors embedded in the saddle, handlebars, and stirrups detect shifts in the rider’s weight and posture, creating a responsive experience akin to guiding a living creature. “It’s about harmony between human intuition and machine intelligence,” explained a Kawasaki engineer.

Kawasaki envisions applications in disaster response, mountain exploration, and even daily commuting, offering a quieter, wheel-free alternative.
