Trabzonspor President and businessman Ertuğrul Doğan has added a distinctive touch to his newly acquired private jet, showcasing a custom tail design inspired by the cultural motifs of the Trabzon region. The design, which incorporates traditional patterns from the famous Trabzon Keşan fabric, was applied to the tail of the Global Express aircraft by Ömer Erkmen, a renowned designer known for his work on aircraft livery for the Turkish Air Force and other global aviation entities.
A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity
The unique design project was initiated by Doğan, who requested a special motif for the tail of his black-colored jet. Turhan Güngör, Chairman of Hyperion Aerospace, the company providing aircraft management services to Doğan, explained the process: “When we acquired the aircraft, Mr. Doğan wanted a unique design for the tail. We collaborated with Ömer Erkmen, who has extensive experience in creating designs for military and civilian aircraft. The design was printed on specialized 3M foil, specifically designed for aviation use, and applied to the aircraft.”
Ömer Erkmen, an aircraft engineer and designer with numerous aviation projects to his name, shared insights into the creative process: “This was my first time working on a civilian aircraft. I reinterpreted three different patterns from Trabzon’s cultural heritage, which are also reflected in Trabzonspor’s team colors. The main color of the jet is black, but the tail design brings a vibrant cultural touch.”
Technical Challenges and Precision
Erkmen highlighted the technical challenges involved in the project, particularly the need for the design to withstand extreme temperature variations. “On the ground, the aircraft’s surface can reach 50-60 degrees Celsius on a hot day, while in the sky, it faces temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius. We used 3M’s specialized aviation foil to ensure the design could endure these conditions. With the support of General Aviation Maintenance Center, we completed the application in four days,” he explained.
A Symbol of Pride and Identity
The design not only reflects Trabzon’s rich cultural heritage but also symbolizes the pride and identity of Trabzonspor, one of Turkey’s most iconic football clubs. By incorporating local motifs into the aircraft’s livery, Doğan has created a flying emblem of the region’s traditions and the club’s spirit.
Social Media Buzz
The unique design has garnered attention on social media, with users praising the creativity and cultural significance of the project. Hashtags such as #Trabzonspor, #Tasarım, and mentions of Ömer Erkmen’s artwork have trended, highlighting the public’s appreciation for this blend of art and aviation.
Conclusion
Ertuğrul Doğan’s custom-designed private jet is more than just a luxury aircraft; it is a celebration of Trabzon’s cultural identity and a testament to the region’s artistic heritage. As the jet takes to the skies, it carries with it the spirit of Trabzon and the pride of Trabzonspor, making a bold statement both on the ground and in the air.
